Let there be sobbing!

First, this video:

And then its response:

Oh! Sob, sob. "Dr." Amir "Tunni" Liaquat Ali is in controversy – again, and I rolled my eyes again. Mute the first video and see the mouth diarrhea happening. It is evident that the "Tunni" is guilty of his doings, and he claims in the second video that he did insulted certain Islamic personalities accidentally. However, there is more than that meets the eye in these videos.

Watch the first video at 05:40, out of any context, ARY is mentioned. Instantly, Dr. Tunni tries to rub it in the caller's face. Clearly, this speaks volumes for itself. For the last two years, GEO has been missing an important part of its Ramadan transmission. It was the Tunni who made somehow singlehandedly brought in the ratings with his "angelic" presence and "pious" talk. Throughout the rest of the year, Aalim Online, his show based on Islamic solutions to life, was one of the most watched in Pakistan. However, last year the Tunni and his "pious" tongue jumped ship and went to ARY. GEO replaced him with Sahir "Real Shahrukh" Lodhi. As the Tunni moved, the ratings moved too. I presume that the first year went without much of a hassle but this year it is not happening for GEO. Their star-studded cast of Sahir Lodhi, Reema and Omer Sharif are not pulling up the ratings as much as the Tunni does. On the other hand, Amir Liaquat has been coupled with another GEO veteran Hina Khuwja Bayat for the Ramadan transmission. Bayat is a known social worker and  once hosted a Oprah-esque show on GEO.

Now, move to 07:43 on the first video. It claims that the Tunni insulted two of the Caliphs in a Shiaite ceremony. A second example is give on 08:20. Yes, for some of us it is blood-boiling but then again, this is shown to rub mud for personal gains. This year, the Tunni managed to make clerics of different sects sit and pray in a single televised ceremony. Here, it would not be wrong when I would say that thanks to Amir Liaquat, there is more desegregation now than ever before. He might have slipped once or twice at places but he is after all a human being.

Lastly, the issue of "swearing" is there. Oh my GOD! Like none of us swear. Whatever the Tunni was saying in the video, it is commonplace practice. At workplaces around Pakistan, men swear and sometimes, women swear. There is nothing new about it. Furthermore, as far as my knowledge goes, the call was not "live," GEO and other stations in Pakistan fool their viewers by telling them that the calls are "LIVE."

Tunni's response has limited validity. These videos are not your ordinary videos, they belong to an archives where the program was original shot. All of these clips are from his Aalim Online days and it was shot by GEO. This leak might be deliberate as the quality of video is exceptionally good. I presume it was made on a professional software. Something like on a Macintosh, not on a Pentium 4 PC. The kind of tactic being used here, I am not surprised that it is coming from GEO. The media group is a major sore loser and we observed that in the days when GEO Super was pulled off-air.

Lastly, I would like to ask everyone to stop taking sides in this war of ratings. They should sit back and enjoy the show. Soon, we might see a court case about this one.
